AI visibility by city
We asked four AI assistants for a local recommendation in 48 US markets and checked every answer against the businesses Google Maps returns for the same query. 11.9% got named. These pages list which ones.
Collected 2026-08-15/16. Method and full data set on the AI Local Visibility Index.
Ask ChatGPT for the best dentist in your city and it names two or three businesses. Google Maps returns about a hundred. Everything below is the gap between those two numbers, city by city and category by category, with the named businesses printed in full so you can check the claim rather than take it.
Nothing here is modelled or extrapolated. Each page reports one real market: 1,440 AI answers were collected in total, 0 were dropped, and the raw file is published as JSON.

What each page contains
- The three buyer questions we asked, word for word, and the four engines we asked them to.
- How many businesses Google Maps returns for that query, and how many of them any assistant named.
- The named businesses, listed per engine. This is the part no summary can replace: if you run a business in one of these markets, you can find out in one glance whether an assistant has ever said your name.
- What the numbers do not prove. The denominator is capped at 100 rows per market and the answers are one snapshot in time, both stated on every page.
Categories measured in every city: coffee shops, gyms, dentists, plumbers, hair salons, law firms.
